A hotdog a day keeps the doctor away….

(Which isn‘t true at all) Before I went vegetarian I actually didn‘t like hotdogs. Which is actually no wonder if you doesn‘t like sausages. In addition the hotdogs that time were just boring. It is basically a sausage with ketchup and some bread. Nevermind, yesterday I went on an event, where you run and jump into mud (really funny:)) Anyways, there was a food corner and over there I found the inspiration for this recipe. A vegetarian hotdog which is as soft and saucy as your dream hotdog might be. The preparation is very simple and easy but very special and „fancy“. So even if you don‘t like hotdogs give this one a try. It will worth it. Then I‘d say “Let‘s get straight into it“……..

Don‘t look for love, look for a hotdog!

Oh yeah…. I like this quote. It is the right attitude. I mean, why searching for love when you can have a hotdog. Just joking:). But now let’s concentrate because the hotdog party is just about to start!

If you like to make the hotdog buns on you own feel free to do but I prefer buying them in the store. Just so fluffy and delicious. In addition I didn‘t have time baking them this day:)

I started with pealing an onion and cutting it into thin slices which I added to a pan with melted butter. Use enough butter. It is important for the caramelising process. I fried  the onion on medium heat first and let it caramelise on lower heat afterwards. By the time the slices were soft and almost transparent I added some sugar. It causes the sweet flavour of the caramelised onion later on. Then I roasted the vegetarian sausage in a pan. It is pretty self explanatory just fry it as a common sausage:). And last but not least, drum roll …… I cut the prickles into thin slices.

That was actually the hardest part, now the funny one follows. When I had prepared all those fillings I cut open my hotdog bun and filled it with the sausage and the caramelised onions as well as some cheddar cheese. Then I topped this with ketchup, mayonnaise and of course some prickles…

    Start with caramelising the onion slices, which you cut before,  by frying them on lower heat and adding sugar when they are soft and almost transparent. Continue with roasting the vegetarian sausage and cutting prickles into thin slices.

  • Cut the hotdog open and put in the sausage and the caramelised onion slices as well as some grated cheddar cheese. Top you hotdog with some ketchup and mayonnaise and prickles.

  • Enjoy!

  • 1 Hotdog bun
  • 1 onion (small)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (white)
  • 1 sausage (vegetarian)
  • ketchup
  • mayonnaise
  • 1/2 prickle
  • cheddar cheese (grated)
